How To Talk To Acne Sufferers
Sometimes acne is a vicious rigmarole. Stress can lead to acne, but acne can lead to stress, the two go hand in hand. Acne sufferers can experience everything from decreased self-esteem and problems with body image to depression and anger. The acne problem can worsen because many teenagers turn to otheer comforts as a result of their acne, such as eating the wrong foods and giving up on any exercise regime due to thier appearance.
Dermatologists encourage parents to seek medical treatment for teenagers with acne and warn against taking a “wait and see” approach. Parents can often state that the acne ‘is just a phase’ or ‘they’ll grow out of it’ but little do they realise how acne is effecting the everyday lives of their loved ones. A sympathetic approach by parents talking to their teenagers is good, but not a non-factual approach. Teenagers need to be made fully aware of the consequernces of not treating their acne. Spurting out comforting words like ‘your acne will go away overnight’ may provide initial encouragement, but eventally lead to dissapointment as your child will relaise that this simply isn’t true.
